When to use this mode

Use the Video mode when you have a recording of someone performing a process on screen or walking through a physical workflow — for example:
  • A screen recording of a software process
  • A walkthrough video demonstrating how to complete a task
  • A training video showing a repeatable procedure step by step
Steppd uploads the video, processes it through several phases, and extracts both the spoken or visual content and relevant video frames. The frames are attached to the steps they relate to as visual hints in the editor.

Video frame hints

When Steppd processes a video, it identifies frames that correspond to specific steps in the document and attaches them as thumbnail hints inside the editor. These hints are visible to you while editing and provide context for what was happening on screen at that point in the process.
Video frame hints appear in the editor only. They are not included in Word exports.

Processing phases

After you upload your video, Steppd runs through the following phases automatically:
PhaseWhat’s happening
UploadingYour file is being transferred to Steppd. A progress bar shows the upload percentage.
ConvertingThe video is being prepared for analysis.
ReviewingThe AI is watching and analyzing the content.
Taking notesThe AI is drafting the structure and preparing clarifying questions.
Each phase displays a friendly status message on the page while it runs.
Large videos (over 500 MB) can take several minutes to process. The page will keep you updated — you don’t need to stay on it, but don’t close the tab until processing is complete.

Steps

1

Go to the new document page

In the sidebar, click My documents, then click New document. Or click New document directly from the Dashboard.
2

Select the Video card

On the mode-selection screen, click the Video card.
3

Fill in optional metadata

Optionally enter a Title, Version, and Department. If you leave the title blank, the AI will infer one from the video content — you can edit it in the editor later.
4

Upload your video file

Click the upload area and select your video file. A progress bar appears as the file uploads.
5

Wait for processing

After the upload completes, Steppd automatically moves through the Converting, Reviewing, and Taking notes phases. Status messages keep you informed throughout.
6

Review the draft outline and answer questions

Once analysis is complete, a draft outline appears with the proposed sections and steps, along with clarifying questions. Answer as many questions as you can to help the AI fill gaps in the content.
7

Create the document

Click Create document. The editor opens with the generated document. Steps that have associated video frames show thumbnail hints alongside the content area.
