Steppd gives you two ways to share editing access on a document: assign a co-author so another team member can edit without taking ownership, or transfer ownership outright. Both actions are available from any document row in My documents or Shared with me.

Assigning a co-author

A co-author can edit a document but does not own it. This is useful when a subject-matter expert writes the content and a separate person manages the document lifecycle.
1

Open the action menu

In My documents or Shared with me, hover over the document row and click .
2

Select Assign Co-Author

Click Assign Co-Author. If a co-author is already set, the option reads Change Co-Author.
3

Pick a team member

A picker dialog lists all team members. Select the person you want to assign.
4

Confirm

Click Confirm. The document now appears in that person’s Shared with me list at /sops/shared.
The Shared with me list has the same search, filter, and sort controls as My documents. Co-authors can use the same action menu to edit, publish, or take other actions on documents shared with them.

Transferring document ownership

Transferring ownership moves a document out of your My documents list and into the new owner’s list. The new owner takes full responsibility for the document going forward.

Individual transfer

1

Open the action menu

Hover over the document row in My documents and click ⋯ → Reassign Ownership.
2

Select the new owner

Choose a team member from the picker. The current owner is excluded from the list.
3

Confirm

Click Confirm. The document moves to the new owner’s My documents immediately.

Bulk transfer (Admin only)

When you need to reassign multiple documents from a team member — for example, before removing them — use the bulk transfer flow in Settings.
1

Go to Settings → Team

Navigate to Settings and click the Team tab.
2

Open the reassign modal

Find the member whose documents you want to transfer and click Reassign documents.
3

Select documents

The modal lists all documents owned by that member. Check the ones you want to transfer.
4

Choose a target member

Select the new owner from the Transfer to dropdown.
5

Confirm transfer

Click Confirm transfer. All selected documents are moved to the new owner’s list.
